Coffee Roaster Team Member, Coffee Roasting Facility
Job Description
Reports to the Roasting Team Leader. The Coffee Roaster performs all roaster operator functions with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency. These include operating, maintaining, cleaning coffee roasting equipment, loading hoppers according to established formulas, monitoring roasters, making adjustments, conducting quality tests and tastings, entering daily production data, and training less experience roasters.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operates coffee roasting equipment meeting all safety, quality, and efficiency standards.
- Sets up equipment for production.
- Monitors each roast, making adjustments to the roaster settings as needed to meet profiles and ensure quality.
- Transfer of roasted coffee to appropriate production stations (bagging and grinding) to ensure efficient workflows.
- May load/blend green coffee in preparation for roasting.
- Records production data as expected into an ERP System/Productivity System, or on paperwork.
- Cleans/sanitizes equipment in the Roasting/Loading areas.
- Performs regular preventive maintenance on Roasters and other equipment in the Roasting/Loading areas according to established schedules.
- Assists in the training of new team members.
- Follows established quality standards.
- Conducts quality tests on all roasts using the Agtron roast analyzer.
- Participates in regular coffee tastings to ensure quality standards.
- Performs additional job duties as required.
- Complies with all issued policies and procedures documented in the Allegro Operating Manuals and Regulations, including SQF, GMP, HACCP, FDA, OSHA, NSF, NOP, and any local/state/federal requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
- 1+ years' experience in a production environment (roaster, machine operator, or other technical/mechanical role required).
- Food manufacturing experience and knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices is preferred.
- Strong mechanical abilities.
- Ability to learn basic knowledge of all coffee roasting profiles, and quality standards for Allegro Coffee through close partnership with Sourcing team.
- Must be able to read and understand operator manuals.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to learn tasks performed on tablet and handheld scanner.
- Proficient math and computer skills.
- Ability to work well with others in a team-oriented environment.
- Must demonstrate flexibility to meet quickly changing production schedules and job assignments that may involve extended or overtime hours.
- Able to perform physical requirements of position including standing, walking, bending, stooping, climbing up to 10 hours daily in addition to lifting up to 50 lbs, pushing/pulling 150 lbs.
