Package Designer

Job Description

We’re seeking a Package Designer to join the Whole Foods Market creative team. You’ll help create packaging that extends brand guidelines and ensures consistency within our portfolio of exclusive brands. Your focus will be on 365 and Whole Foods Market brands, but you will also occasionally work on packaging for Amazon Fresh. With strong branding and packaging design experience—especially in the food space—you’re eager to continue to grow your skills in food photography and on-set art direction. A self-starter, detail-oriented, and collaborative designer, you bring strategic thinking, creativity, and a team-player mindset to every project. The right candidate for this role will not just fit into our culture but add to it.This role is based at Whole Foods Market HQ in Austin, TX with an expectation of being in-office five days per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design Execution: Aid in the evolution of our established brands through the creation of innovative design concepts that push the brand forward.
  • Asset Management: Organize and archive mechanicals, templates, and assets.
  • Brand Guidelines: Apply and adapt brand standards across categories.
  • Photography Collaboration: Oversee on-set food photography (virtually and in person), ensuring consistency and creative integrity.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Collaborate with stakeholders to align on design directions that are competitive within their categories, and find elegant and compliant design solutions for all FDA required information.
  • Presentation Skills: Clearly present creative work to cross functional partners and leaders. Engage in conversations on the strategic objectives and the customer centric perspective driving design decisions.
  • Creative Reviews: Incorporate feedback from Creative Directors and stakeholders to refine designs.

 

Skills & Qualifications

 

Hard Skills

  • Design Skills: Strong understanding of typography, color, and composition across substrates and sizes.
  • Packaging Experience: Proficient in packaging design systems, particularly in food retail.
  • Brand Guidelines: Experience applying and expanding brand standards.
  • Food Photography: Interest in learning and assisting with food photography; prior art direction experience is a plus.
  • Illustration: Illustration skills and the ability to illustrate in different styles.
  • Software: Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience: as graphic designer or packaging designer.
  • A portfolio demonstrating a thorough understanding of layout, typography, and color is required

The wage range for this position is $60,021.00-$102,036.00 Annual, commensurate with experience. Whole Foods Market offers "Whole Benefits".
