Principal Construction Program Manager

Job Description

Responsible for day-to-day construction project activities from smaller re-configurations to full interior build-outs to new store construction and remodels. Coordinates all site activity and field personnel as required to successfully complete projects on time and within budget. Coordinates interaction and engagement of all team members, including architects, engineers, general contractors, industry consultants, and cross-functional team members. Works with Accounting to properly load budgets, track spend, and make payments. Ensures construction projects delivery outcomes of the highest quality.This role must be based out of one of the following operational areas: Boston MA, Jersey City NJ, Rockville MD, Atlanta GA, Chicago IL or Austin TX. You must be able to travel up to 80% of the time across East Coast (2-3 d/wk)

Responsibilities:

  • Leads multiple new store development and remodels.
  • Partners with cross-functional teams (architects, engineers, and consultants) to facilitate the complete redesign of new stores and remodels.
  • Provides oversight in ensuring contractual agreements and vendor working agreements are developed, negotiated, and maintained.
  • Prepares construction budgets and tracking to actual costs.
  • Conceives new designs and implementation of grocery equipment and fixtures.
  • Oversees all aspects of construction administration, including contract negotiation, change orders / management, project schedules, and project closeout documentation.
  • Leads regional equipment buyer(s) and equipment buying processes.

Skills:

  • Advanced ability to work with design consultants to facilitate design development and construction drawings.
  • Advanced ability to prepare and drive construction schedules effectively.
  • Expert understanding of WFM’s project management methodologies and requirements.
  • Expert ability to plan, estimate, organize, and monitor projects.
  • Advanced capability to oversee and advise on project management issues and assist with overcoming barriers.
  • Expert ability to keep multiple projects on track financially, creatively, and in accordance with stakeholder deadlines.
  • Advanced proficiency with project management software, such as SharePoint, MS Project, and Basecamp.
  • Conveys and / or consults on issues of moderate to significant complexity.
  • Regularly interacts with colleagues or customers up to the senior leadership level.
  • Provides process and policy advice to Team Members and customers.
  • Provides function-wide process advice and insight.
  • Offers guidance to less experienced Team Members.
  • Consults with and advises senior-level stakeholders and leaders.
  • Develops complex solutions to business problems through in-depth analyses and coordination / negotiation with key decision makers.
  • Uses experience, innovation, and judgment to make decisions that may be based on partial information.
  • Considers enterprise-wide implications of decisions and recommendations.
  • Leverages understanding of the customer base, market, and industry to drive project-related decisions and recommendations.
  • Demonstrates exceptional knowledge of the WFM product mix, supply base, and retail operations.

Education & Experience:

  • BA/BS degree and 6-8 years’ relevant experience OR equivalent education and relevant experience.
