Senior EHS Specialist

Job Description

Do you thrive on making workplaces safer, smarter, and more compliant — not just on paper, but in practice? We’re looking for a Senior EHS Specialist to join our team and elevate the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) program in their assigned geographical area. The position will proactively ensure a safe place to shop and work that includes our stores, distribution centers, bakehouses, and other facilities. Reporting to the EHS Team Leader, you’ll be the go-to expert for all things environmental health and safety within your assigned operating area. You’ll collaborate cross-functionally, build strong relationships, and lead initiatives that directly protect our Team Members, customers, and reputation. This role will be based in the Northeast, Midwest, or Southeast reporting in store or office 5 days a week and traveling 30% in the assigned geographical area.

What You’ll Do: 

 

  • Lead with purpose – Drive EHS strategies that not only meet compliance but foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement. 

  • Be a key influencer – Partner with Asset Protection, Legal, Store Development, HR, and others to support and align on company-wide EHS initiatives. 

  • Make decisions backed by data – Design and implement safety programs, metrics, and KPIs to inform strategy and action. 

  • Ensure compliance – Monitor locations for alignment with WFM standards and federal, state, and local EHS regulations. 

  • Deliver training that sticks – Facilitate impactful safety training at all levels, ensuring teams know the "why" behind every policy. 

  • Guide PPE & First Aid programs – Manage consistent, compliant PPE and First Aid practices across all facilities. 

  • Lead hazard communication & waste programs – Oversee haz-waste classification, audits, SDS systems (e.g., 3E), and removal processes. 

  • Investigate & prevent – Conduct thorough incident investigations, identify trends, and partner with cross-functional teams to implement preventive strategies. 

  • Act as the regulatory expert – From OSHA to EPA, keep our teams informed and compliant with evolving standards. 

  • Collaborate with Amazon partners – Meet regularly with Amazon counterparts to align strategies, review outcomes, and evaluate program performance. 

  • Stay ahead of the curve – Remain actively engaged in the industry and regulatory updates so you can act as the in-house EHS subject matter expert. 

 

 

What You’ll Need: 

 

  • 4+ years of relevant experience in global EHS programs and strategies. 

  • Thorough knowledge and practical application of Federal, State, and local EHS laws and regulations. 

  • Working knowledge of EPA, OSHA, and other associated regulatory agencies. 

  • Demonstrates the ability to provide direction on all EHS matters. 

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and safeguard highly sensitive competitive information. 

  • Must be comfortable communicating and presenting to all levels of the business. 

  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills. 

  • Ability to travel approximately 30%. 

 

The wage range for this position is $77,111.00-$131,089.00 Annual, commensurate with experience. Whole Foods Market offers "Whole Benefits".
