Senior Food Safety Analyst (Philadelphia)

Job Description

Promotes store, regional, national, and global programs and specifications in Food Safety and Good Organics principles. Analyzes store food safety performance to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal food laws. Analyzes weights and measures, pest, and chemical store performance against regulatory requirements and company policy. Coordinates with region and store leadership to drive compliance by understanding gaps, verifying that corrective action is complete, and adjusting processes and audit criteria.This role is based out of Philadelphia PA metro and able to be in stores up to 5 days per week within the metro area.

Responsibilities:

  • Interprets and advises regional operations teams on third party service providers and regulatory inspections.
  • Develops science-based food safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal regulations.
  • Collaborates with a cross-functional team to develop technical training and to advise stores on food safety requirements and continuous improvement processes.
  • Supports the development and adjustment of audit criteria and policies/procedures for the stores to drive compliance and foster continuous improvement.
  • Calibrates and assesses continuity across food safety programs, including third-party audits, pest control, chemical provision, and regulatory inspections; ensures consistency with WFM and regulatory food safety standards.
  • Collaborates with regional retail operations and GQA Supplier Quality Assurance team to deliver safe and high-quality products.
  • Works with regional operations team to improve food safety and quality metrics.
  • Works with vendors of new and emerging technologies to improve or streamline the safety of WFM products.
  • Assists with the investigation and resolution of product safety and quality issues.
  • Works closely with Risk Management to address OSHA issues related to cleaning and chemical products.
  • Acts as a primary liaison with regulatory agencies.

Skills:

  • Strong technical knowledge of HACCP, ISO Quality Systems, Food Safety Management Training Programs, federal, state, and international food safety legislation (including FDA Model Food Code).
  • Knowledge of recipe and product development, contract language, and specification management.
  • Applied knowledge of the company’s natural and organic food programs.
  • Advanced proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of MS SharePoint.
  • Communicates structured information in a clear, concise, and organized fashion.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to achieve objectives and ensure information flow.
  • Effectively presents information and responds to questions in one-on-one situations and group meetings.
  • Establishes, maintains, and enhances relationships with all Team Members.
  • Impacts overall team effectiveness.
  • May provide informal support to the less experienced Team Members.
  • Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise.
  • Manages  food safety projects.
  • Plans, estimates, organizes, and monitors projects.
  • Keeps projects on track financially, creatively, and in accordance with stakeholder deadlines.
  • Oversees and advises on project management issues and assists with overcoming barriers.
  • Understands the trends and emerging challenges facing the customer, market, and industry.
  • Applies business and project understanding to focus project / the team’s efforts.
  • Demonstrates excellent knowledge of the product mix, supply base, and retail operations.
  • Able to identify alignment / misalignment of the team’s project goals with larger organizational strategy, goals, and objectives.

Education & Experience:

  • BA/BS degree and 4-6 years’ relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Food Safety Certifications – HACCP and Registered Sanitarian (RS), Certified Professional Food Safety (CPFS), or Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS)

The wage range for this position is $77,111.00-$131,089.00 Annual, commensurate with experience. Whole Foods Market offers "Whole Benefits".
