Senior Logistics Specialist

Job Description

Whole foods Market is hiring for a Logistics Analyst to be responsible for handling the inbound freight needs of perishables and other products for all of WFM’s U.S. distribution centers, external customers and processors. This analyst will be responsible for handling the inbound freight needs of perishables and other products for all  WFM’s U.S. distribution centers, external customers and processors. Handles other freight needs. Strives to minimize overall supply chain costs without compromising quality or reliability of supply. Serves as liaison between central and regional teams, coordinates demand signals and availability among distribution network tiers, including vendors, consolidation warehouses and distribution centers.

Location: Austin, TX
Schedule: After-hours shift (All times listed in CST)

This role follows a set after-hours schedule with potential shifts during the following times:

  • Monday–Friday: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
  • Saturday: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM
  • Sunday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

The position requires working five days from the shifts above. Weekend coverage is limited to one day only.

Job Description

  • Provides Logistics support across major operations company-wide (Perishables Purchasing)
  • Contributes to development of the organization’s overall supply and logistics strategy.
  • Supports various launch activities by performing services including:
    • Attends and participates in regional, national and inter-team meetings
    • Maintaining OneNote updates (SOP’s)
    • Forecasting - Logistics
  • Identifies, evaluates and capitalizes on opportunities to reduce costs by improving buying patterns and supply channels through collaboration with purchasing
  • Accurately manages email flow, maintains good records of communications and provides documentation as required to support inquires and help with issue resolution
  • Compiles data, ensures accuracy and performs in-depth analysis as needed
  • Analyzes and interprets data results and communicates findings to the team
  • Communicates all relevant information and keeps everyone on the same page at all times; fosters collaboration with the group to lower cost of goods to WFM
  • Assists with the development of new reporting tools to be used by buying teams (global and regional, to support purchasing operational needs and executive decision-making)
  • Prepares materials and supports buyer communication as needed
  • Monitors the functional activity processes and outcomes; recommends areas for continuous improvement
  • With oversight, performs the truck forecasting tasks, particularly for holiday planning
  • Assists with managing transportation carriers
  • Supports team leadership by communicating truck planning issues, interpreting weekly reports and resolving arrival conflicts
  • Communicates, represents, and upholds WFM’s core values and business philosophy to Team Members and vendor/supply/carrier partners
  • Provides data and works as liaison for WFM Purchasing team
  • Monitors the trucking and delivery schedules to proactively identify potential issues and conflicts for all regions
  • Works with trucking, delivery, storage, and other stakeholders to resolve issues.
  • Reviews periodic reports for patterns, trends, and systemic issues; communicating improvement recommendations to Senior Team Leader
  • Drives improvement in key performance metrics, such as order fill rate, on-time delivery, inventory turns, service levels at shelf, returns, and inventory levels versus budget.
  • Tracks and reports on key metrics on a regular basis.
  • Responsible for daily tracking of load status while in transit, understanding and documenting dwell time at pick up and delivery locations.
  • Ensures optimal use of processes and policies to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of the Transportation Management System (TMS)
  • Maintains complete and accurate records of all transactions and projections.
  • Assist with planning and execution of Transportation Procurement RFPs

Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of inventory management, carrier relations, ordering and disposition processes and standards
  • Advanced proficiency with standard ordering, delivery, trucking and transportation practices and procedures.
  • Excellent mathematical skills
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.

  • Handles a diverse range of issues requiring evaluation of a variety of factors, including business trends
  • Possesses deep understanding of the WFM organizations structure, hierarchy and approval levels
  • Understands and influences the types and timing of various departmental deadlines and events
  • Understands how Logistics decision and recommendations may impact third-party business and operations

Education & Experience:

BA/BS degree and 2-4 years relevant experience OR equivalent combinations of education and relevant experience

  • Experience managing logistics activities across multiple geographies, (US/Canada/Mexico)
  • Experience of various supply chain technologies, processes and standards including Web Portals, TMS/WMS, Scorecards, Vendor Compliance preferred
  • Analytic software knowledge (Tableau, Power BI)
  • Procurement Management Software (Coupa)
The wage range for this position is $60,021.00-$102,036.00 Annual, commensurate with experience. Whole Foods Market offers "Whole Benefits".
